Play and Learn

At Oxford High School, we believe in the power of “Play and Learn,” where structured play activities are essential for the overall development of children. Our approach integrates water play and sand play, which are not only fun but also scientifically proven to improve important skills like eye-hand coordination, problem-solving, and creativity.

Water Play encourages children to pour, splash, and manipulate water, which strengthens their fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination. Handling water tools, such as cups or small buckets, helps them develop precise control over their movements, sharpening their focus and concentration. These skills are essential not just in early childhood but also in later stages of life, where coordination plays a key role in everyday activities, from writing to using tools and technology.

Sand Play offers similar benefits, as children dig, build, and mold with their hands. Moving sand with shovels, cups, or simply their fingers helps develop tactile awareness and muscle control. These activities also enhance spatial awareness, allowing children to understand shapes, sizes, and textures. As they construct sandcastles or create imaginative structures, they build problem-solving skills and creativity, which are foundational for academic and personal growth.

Scientific studies show that early development of fine motor skills through activities like water and sand play significantly contributes to cognitive development, preparing children for tasks requiring precision and focus in later stages of life. At Oxford High School, we ensure that our students benefit from these play-based learning opportunities, helping them grow in a well-rounded, holistic manner, both physically and mentally.
